TransWorld Junior College of Commerce

1989

Invited by Dr. Wen-Tsu Hsu, former Yunlin County Mayor, Dr. Rongzhao Guo moved the location of “TransWorld Junior College of Commerce” to Douliu City, Yunlin County.

1990

The Board of Directors established and held the first preparatory meeting in 1990. The Board employed 13 professional experts to be entitled as directors.

1991

The Board of Directors elected Ms. Su-Jen Lin as the first Board Chair and defined the school motto as: “Cherish Honesty, Practice Integrity.”

1992

Approved by the Ministry of Education, seven departments were established as followings: the Department of International Trade, the Department of Banking and Insurance, the Department of Information Management, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Finance and Taxation, the Department of Business and Secretarial Science, and the Department of Accounting and Statistics.

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Xinzhang Chen as the first president of TransWorld Junior College of Commerce.

1993

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the night division in-service classes were established with 133 new students.

1994

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Rouying Zeng as the second President of TransWorld Junior College of Commerce.

The Board of Directors elected Ms. Su-Jen Lin as the second Board Chair.

1995

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Shin Sheng Lai as the third President of TransWorld Junior College of Commerce.

1996

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Shu-Hsiang Hsu as the fourth President of TransWorld Junior College of Commerce.

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Department of Visual Communication Design and the Department of Applied Foreign Languages were established.

1997

President Dr. Shu-Hsiang Hsu defined three pillars as: “Wisdom, Innovation, and Competition.”

The Board of Directors appointed Mr. Kun Ming Wu as the third Board Chair.

1998

Leased 30 hectares of land from Taiwan Sugar Cooperation for the Jiadong Campus and reserved the land for the future development of TransWorld Institute of Technology.

1999

Evaluated by the Ministry of Education, all 8 departments received the first-class appraisement.

Held a ground-breaking ceremony for the 30-hectare Jiadong campus and started the construction of Cun Cheng Hall, student dormitories, and cafeterias.

TransWorld Institute of Technology

2000

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the name of the school was entitled as TransWorld Institute of Technology on August 1, 2000.

Jiadong Campus opening ceremony was held on October 28, 2000.

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Department of Leisure Management was established.

2001

The Board of Directors elected Mr. Hong Zhi Ding as the fourth Board Chair.

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Shu-Hsiang Hsu as the first president of TransWorld Institute of Technology.

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Department of Marketing Management, the Department of Public Relations and Design, the Department of Commerce Technology Management, and the Department of Applied Foreign Language were established.

Became the only institute of higher education to win the award of “the National Water Saving Unit.”

Won the award of “Premium Sport College.”

2002

pproved by the Ministry of Education, the Graduate Institute of Environmental Resources Management, the Department of Biotechnology, the Department of Early Childhood Educare, and the Department of Fashion Styling were established.

Started construction of Wu-Shih Hall and Early Childhood Education Instruction and Internship Hall on Jiadong Campus.

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Zuo Kui Pen as the second president of TransWorld Institute of Technology.

2003

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Graduate Institute of Strategic Management of Small & Medium Enterprise was established.

Started the construction of the Faculty Dormitory on Jiadong Campus and expanded the employment of overseas scholars to teach at TransWorld.

2004

The Board of Directors elected the founder Dr. Wen-Tsu Hsu as the Board Chair.

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Ming-Fung Lin as the third president of TransWorld Institute of Technology.

2005

Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Department of Product Design was established.

TransWorld Nursery School, the first affiliated nursery school in Yunlin County, was established.

Eleven Indonesian international students enrolled.

Started constructions of Chuang Yi Hall on Jiadong Campus.

2006

The Board of Directors elected Ms. Shu-Min Hsu as the sixth Board Chair.

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Shu-Hsiang Hsu as the fourth president of TransWorld Institute of Technology.

Started the constructions of the grand library on Jiadong Campus.

2007

The faculties and students from the Department of Fashion Styling went to Beijing for the Asian Cup of “OMC Hairwork, World Championship of Beauty” competition, and won the bronze medal.

2008

Ting Tung Te Memorial Library opened.

The faculties and students from the Department of Fashion Styling went to the US for the “OMC Hairwork, World Championship of Beauty” competition and won two gold and one bronze medals.

The Department of Styling and Cosmetology won the “Glory of Technological and Vocational Education” from the Ministry of Education for the third time in a row.

After being evaluated by the Ministry of Education, the administrative sections and 8 professional departments received the first-class appraisement.

2009

Invited Nan Kai University, Tianjin, China, and held a conference together named “2009 Taiwan-China Innovative Business Forum for Small and Medium Enterprise.”

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Shu-Hsiang Hsu as the fifth president of TransWorld Institute of Technology.

Evaluated by the Ministry of Education, 14 departments and the administrative sections received the first-class appraisement.

TransWorld University

2010

 On August 1, 2010, the TransWorld Institute of Technology became TransWorld University. The College of Management, College of Design, and College of Health and Leisure were established simultaneously.

 Approved by the Ministry of Education, the Graduate Institute of Biotechnology was permitted to be established.

 The Department of Styling and Cosmetology won 2 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze medals from 2010 OMC Asia Cup Open in Sri Lanka.

 Students and teachers in the Department of Product Design won the bronze medals with the work, “Air Impossible” from The 2010 Creative Design Competition for the International Students in Taiwan held by the Ministry of Education.

 The work of “AHOLIC” animation created by the students and teachers in the Department of Visual Communication Design was selected by the German Berlin Film Preview. This is the only work done for Taiwan in this prestigious competition.

 Awarded Excellence in promoting Intellectual Property Rights campuswide by the Ministry of Education.

 TransWorld E-Volunteers were awarded Outstanding Volunteers by the Ministry of Education.

2011

Honored with NT$60 million in "Teaching Excellence Awards" from Taiwan's Ministry of Education.

Granted with "Outstanding Award of Technological and Vocational Education" from Taiwan's Ministry of Education.

Earned the title for “First Volunteer University of Taiwan” from Taiwan's Ministry of Education.

Rated 5th in Internationalization Index among Taiwan’s Universities and Colleges for Undergraduate Programs, surveyed by the Office of Quality Assurance and Audit, Tamkang University.

2012

2 teachers leading 30 students embarked on their exchange programs in Woosong University in South Korea and Huachiew Chalermprakiet University in Thailand, respectively, during summer vacation.

Chinese Language Center opened in 2012. The Center aims to provide degree-seeking international students with professional Chinese language & Taiwanese/ culture immersion courses during their first academic year.

Was ranked in 9th Place in Total Number of Enrolled International Students in the Category of Universities of Science and Technology Nationwide, and was Top 5 among private-run counterparts, according to the statistics compiled by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.

2013

TWU Assistant Professor Chang, Hung-Jung was awarded a gold medal at the 2013 Archimedes Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovation Technology for his invention of PEAS, in safety, protection and salvation of man.

Ms. Ya-Sui Tseng, TWU alumnus of Department of Fashion Styling participating at International Make-up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) Battle of the Brushes London 2013, wiped out the competition, winning the first place in the Beauty/Fantasy category.

2014

TWU Alumnus, Mr. Yu-Chuan Lai, after beating more than 30 competitors, won the 2nd World Coffee Roasting Championship in Rimini, Italy.

TWU students took home two bronze medals at FHA 2014 Culinary Challenge in Singapore.

2015

1 Gold, 3 Silvers, 6 Bronzes won by TWU students in the 2015 HOFEX ICC Culinary Competition in Hong Kong.

3 Golds, 10 Silvers, 16 Bronzes won by TWU students in the 2015 Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge in Bangkok.

3 Golds and 1 Silver won by TWU student in the 24th Seoul International Human (Beauty & Health) Olympic in South Korea.

2016

Professor Chen I-Hsing took office as 7th President
